Little League Elbow/Shoulder
Little League elbow and shoulder are types of overuse injuries that happen when youth athletes throw too often to too hard before their bodies are ready. Because growing bones have softer growth plates, repeated throwing can put tons of stress on the elbow and shoulder, leading to pain, soreness, or swelling. These injuries show up when players don’t get enough rest between trowing days or when pitching volume increases drastically over a short period of time.
Let’s protect our arms!
Think of your arm like a battery, it needs time to charge back up. Schedule days to throw or days to rest, track pitch counts, and slowly increase the volume to help the arm get stronger safely. Strengthening exercises such as the banded internal and external rotations, scap push-ups, and band pull-aparts keep the shoulder stable and the elbow supported. When the soudler blades and rotator cuff are strong, the arm can withstand more, give better control, and you will be able to throw with more confidence.
