Hamstring Strains
Hamstring strains happen when the muscles in the back of your thigh stretch too far or overload. The can happen during sprinting, sudden acceleration, or rapid stopping. They’re especially common when athletes increase speed too quickly, skip warmups, or have weak or tight hamstrings. A strain can cause a sharp pain, tightness, or pulling in the back of the leg. This limits running, jumping, and bending if not managed properly.
Let’s protect those hamstrings!
Your hamstrings are like elastic bands, they need to be strong and flexible to snap back. Gradually building up sprint speed gives the muscle time to adapt and strengthening exercises allows them to handle more powerful movements. Warming up before running prepares the hamstring and light stretching after workouts helps them recover. Drills such as A-skips, hamstring scoops, and sit-and-reach holds improve your flexibility and control.
